Where To Go Gorilla trekking in Rwanda or Uganda, how to book gorilla permit in Uganda Rwanda

Gorilla trekking in either Uganda or Rwanda gives you almost the same experience. Gorillas in Uganda live in Bwindi forest national park which is about 9 to 10 hours away from the capital Kampala if driving but may take about 1hour and half if flying for gorilla trekking.  Rwanda gorillas live in Volcanoes forest National Park which is about 2 hour and half hours on a well made road meandering around highlands.

Gorilla trekking permit in Uganda

Gorilla tracking in Uganda especially the southern part of Bwindi Forest makes it possible to trek gorillas in both Uganda and Rwanda but on different days. You must have booked gorilla trekking permits in both countries that is to say Uganda and Rwanda in advance.

Tracking gorillas in Rwanda involves hiking uniformly steep slopes and get done the valley to find the gorillas. In Uganda, gorillas live on the top or down the bottom of the ridges making there trek more strenuous especially during the dry seasons when the gorillas have to look for there own food.

To visit Uganda as a tourist, you have the chance of applying for a visa on arrival at the immigration but Rwanda, you must have applied for your visa upfront to avoid the long process of asking for a visa on ground. It is quite tedious and if you are crossing the border from Uganda to Rwanda, and the worst comes to the worst, you may miss out on your gorilla trek if you are left behind.

After gorilla trekking optional activities in Uganda are very many like you may visit Batwa community Pygmy visit, Ishasha community tour, Queen Elizabeth national Park for a wildlife safari, do chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National park, trek the Rwenzori Mountains and so much more. Rwanda however has limited options after gorilla trekking like visit to the Diane Fossey grave, trek golden monkeys, long day travel to Nyungwe National park for chimpanzee trekking, community visit and much more.

The choice of where to trek gorillas and what to do after gorilla tracking is yours to make but you must book your gorilla tracking permit in advance.
